• Ages: 5–18 years old
Drobots Company has been offering creative summer camps to students nationwide for over twenty years and was originally founded by a small group of parents, educators, visionaries, and do-it-yourself engineers. The mission of the program is to inspire students to reduce time in front of a computer screen and instead use drone technology in a setting that promotes collaborative project-based learning in a positive educational environment. The organization describes safety as its number one priority and states that all programs include real-life present-day and future applications, with flexible experiences that shift students between indoor activities and the outdoors, summarized in its slogan “Where Technology Meets Fresh Air.” Drobots Company offers youth, pre-teen, and teen summer camps for students in grades 1–12, an overnight Summer Academy for grades 7–12, a drone overnight and residential camp for grades 5–12, a national and international drone competition series for grades 5–12, and corporate programs, competitions, and events for kids and adults throughout the year.
The staff is described as an adult-led team of well-trained, positively motivated instructors, selected through rigorous hiring standards, with many instructors having years of experience working with kids and teens. The environment is described as safe, positive, encouraging, and friendly, and the program notes that no drone experience or personal drone equipment is necessary. Drobots Company also offers grant-funded summer programs, turnkey STEM, robotics, and drone programming for grant-funded solutions, licensing of its curriculum for schools and other educational or camp programs, and franchise opportunities.
Drobots Company has been honored to be included in Forbes Magazine and The Wall Street Journal and is fully accredited by STEM.org. The program describes itself as the #1 STEM summer program for kids and teens and the #1 drone camp in the country, and it states that positivity, safety, and fun are included in its programs.
Parent and educator testimonials describe the program as having strong staff, giving children a sense of ownership and working knowledge of quadcopter technology, and offering a week of exploration and discovery with much of the program outside. One parent compares drones in this program to “the new Lego Robotics” and notes that their teens are using what they learned in the classroom, while another calls it the most exciting STEM program their children have been part of and highlights that children use their creative and explorative sides while spending quality time outside and not behind a screen all day.
